Bogalusa High School’s basketball team participated in the 2010 Ragin’ Cajun Team Camp on the campus of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette last weekend.

The Lumberjacks varsity and junior varsity squads each got a chance to play seven games a piece including two situational games.

“This work is critical,” Bogalusa head coach Ken Martin said. “You can’t win in the fall unless you work in the summer.

“Camp gives them an opportunity to bond and come together in a relaxing environment. It makes everybody better.”

Bogalusa’s varsity defeated North Vermilion and Opelousas Catholic but fell to H.L. Bourgeois, Acadiana and Lafayette in regular games. The Lumberjacks won both situational contests against Carencro and Comeaux.

“We played a tough schedule but we have  real high expectations,” Martin said.

Brian Williams, an all-district pick last season as a freshmen, led the team in scoring.  Chris Lowery was the leading rebounder and Steve Moses was the top defender.

Lewis Jarvis, who will be a senior this season, was installed as the team captain and provided leadership, while Martin also cited the play of Donel Magee and C.J. Brown.

In junior varsity play, Trevonne Mingo was the leading scorer and Trey Thomas was the leading rebounder.

Landon Tims and Adrian Frazier are Bogalusa’s assistant coaches and handled all situational play.

“They did a great job and I am excited about the new additions to the team,” Martin said.

Bogalusa was the district runner-up last season and advanced to the regionals before falling to eventual champion Vidalia.  The Lumberjacks claimed the district title in the previous two seasons.
