The qualifying period for the Oct. 2 elections is now past and the races are on, but the proliferation of political signs must be contained, said Bogalusa Director of Public Works James Hall.

This week he offered a reminder to all those who are using signs to get their names before the voters.

“Political signs must be on private property, the property owner’s side of the sidewalk,” he said. “And they can’t be on utility poles or in rights of way.”

Starting next Monday, city crews will take down all illegally placed signs.

“They’ll bring them back and pile them up in the city yard,” Hall said.

He said he’s not planning a political sign bonfire.

“I’m not going to burn them,” Hall said. “They can come pick them up and reposition them.”
